WVFC participates in STEMI Drill

A STEMI as known to EMS Professionals stands for ST Segment Myocardial Infarction, better known as a heart attack is a very serious and time sensitive medical emergency. The quicker the patient can arrive at a Cardiac Cath Lab their survivability rate is increased. On Thursday November 5th, 2015 Fauquier Emergency Department, Prince William Cath Lab, PHI/Aircare (Air Medical Transport) and WVFC EMS participated in a practice scenario to test the response of the involved agencies. This was done so data could be gathered for Prince William Hospital of the time required for emergent transfers to Prince William since it is our closest cardiac center. Most of the staff in the Emergency Room and Cardiac Center were unaware that the assessment was taking place to simulate real time . The drill was cut short when patients actually needing the Cath Lab services were flown by medical helicopter to the cath lab in a real emergency. Another test is planned in the future.
