Outside Fire – Blantyre Road / Mcraes Road

On Monday October 26th at approximately 2:30 p.m. Company 1 was alerted for an outside fire involving a corn field in the area of Blantyre Road and Mcraes Road. Wagon, Attack and Tanker 1 responded, Wagon 1 requested a second brush truck while responding. Once Company 1 units arrived they found 3 acres of a corn field on fire steadily moving to the south threatening farm machinery, standing corn and a wood line. Wagon 1 established and retained command, Attack 1 began fire attack at the farm machinery and the standing corn stopping the spread of fire there, an additional brush truck was requested in total 3 brush trucks, (Brush 10, Attack 4, Attack 1) and firefighters on hose lines were able to bring the fire under control in about 30 minutes. A bush hog was lost in the fire and according to the farm hands was how the fire originated. In total 3.5 acres and the bush hog were involved. Units operated for just over 1.5 hours before returning in service. The farm hands were very appreciative, happy and spoke highly of the quick response and operations of all crews involved.
