You will learn about our rich history spanning almost 100 years, where we first developed our company with the goal of protecting our fellow citizens and have grown to be the robust combination Fire and EMS Department we are today.  ... continue reading ↓

In 1924, a group of citizens from Warrenton, Virginia came together to start a volunteer fire Company to help save their neighbor’s homes from fire. On December 3, 1924, the Warrenton Volunteer Fire Company was incorporated. 100 years later, and you can still see the ideals of excellence, service and professionalism embodied through our members and apparatus today. Just as it is with many volunteer fire companies, our history, identity and traditions are something we take pride in. For example, look at how our names are displayed on the side of our apparatus -- gold leaf lettering with two shades of green outlining the letters. We didn’t do this just because it “looks cool”, but rather it has exemplified our dedication to excellence ever since the purchase of our first apparatus in 1924.

We are committed to serving the citizens and visitors of the Town of Warrenton, Fauquier County and surrounding areas. Our department strives to deliver the best possible service with highly trained responders, utilizing the best apparatus and equipment in our field of work. Our two stations – Fire Station 1 and EMS Station 1 – are staffed 24/7 with employees from Fauquier County’s Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management (DFREM), who make up an Engine Company and Medic Unit crews. The remaining apparats are staffed by our volunteers which includes a Tower Ladder and Heavy Rescue Squad. Between our two stations, our crews respond to over 6,000 emergencies every year. Our commitment to our community can be seen in everything we do – from continuing to purchase top-of-the-line equipment, including our new $1.5 million engine, to new life-saving medical equipment on our medic units. We cannot do this without the contributions and donations to our department from our community members. We continue to give back to our community through public education and partnering with local community service efforts such as Toys for Tots.

All of these services to our community cannot be delivered without volunteers to carry out the mission. At Company One, we are one family – employed by the county or volunteer. We support our members through continued education in fire and rescue and providing them with career opportunities. For many of our members, their fire and rescue careers started right here in our station as a brand-new volunteer. If you are interested in serving your community, please navigate over to our recruitment section and complete an interest form. One of our recruitment team members would be more than happy to meet with you and tell you why they love WVFC! With no time requirement, you will receive the best protection, equipment and nationally recognized training to be certified through the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Firefighter and/or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). If you are already certified as a firefighter or EMT, we will fast track your in-house training. Our membership is diverse in age, background and experience -- we have members ranging from 16 years of age to 101 years of age. We even just named our Fire Station after our oldest member, Reverend John Winter who turned 100 years old in August 2022.

As we come upon our 100th anniversary of dedicated service to our community, we stand committed to work with our local governance to ensure that our community is protected. We are committed to maintaining our organization to be the best of the best. We invite you to visit our stations any time to see this dedication to excellence in person. We would love for you to become a part of our family as we are one family.

Respectfully,

James K. Swain (Kevin), Fire Chief
