Heavy Truck Vehicle Extrication Class

The WVFC sent four members to attend a three-day class in Charloettesville VA, dealing with heavy truck or heavy vehicles. Members were assigned to a team which consisted of other Northern VA fire and rescue personnel attending the class. The team as a whole worked extremely well together all weekend and were able to handle all scenarios with skill and teamwork. Teams also had to work in conjunction with “heavy wreckers” and “rotators” for stabilizing and lifting / removing the large trucks to complete the extrication process. Practical scenarios included

  • Car under-ride of a tractor-trailer was then rear ended by another large truck
  • Overturned fuel tanker on top of a passenger car
  • Overturned commuter bus on top of an SUV
  • Overturned Concrete mixer on top of a passenger car
